Don Som
Don Som a traditional island between Don Det and Don Khong
The Lao island named Don Som is located in the 4000 Islands (Si Phan Don) area. The island is located between the two more famous islands Don Khong in the north and Don Det in the south (with Don Khone next to it). Not many tourists visit Don Som and most people on the island still life a traditional Lao Loum (lowland Lao) lifestyle. The island is absolutely worth exploring if you like to stay somewhere without other tourists and there is one small guesthouse named Don Som Riverside Guesthouse. You can reach the island by ferry from the mainland town Ban Khinak (and there is public transport from and to Pakse from there), Don Det (by ferry from the small ‘beach’ of the island) and by ferry from the Southern part of Don Khong.
The island is about 13 kilometers long (north-south), and 3 kilometers at its widest point (east-west). There are 12 villages on the island.
Don Som Riverside Guesthouse has a lot of photos about the island on its Facebook page as well.
